A beginner-friendly guide to the Gladiators • Spring 2027 Planning
Welcome to the Elk Grove Gladiators!
If you are new to lacrosse, here are answers to the questions families ask most.
General Information
A fast-paced team sport combining running, passing, catching, and shooting using a mesh-headed lacrosse stick. Players work together to score goals on the opposing net. It is often described as a blend of soccer, basketball, and hockey.
No! Beginners are always welcome. We love introducing new players to the sport and focus heavily on skill development. We also offer free Learn to Play clinics where kids can try lacrosse before committing to a full season.
Yes! Elk Grove Lacrosse offers programs for both boys and girls. (Specific team availability in a given division depends on seasonal registration and participation numbers.)
We offer teams across 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and High School divisions (welcoming players ages 7 to 18). Team formations depend on registration numbers each season.
Season & Schedule
The primary season runs from February through May.
Teams typically practice 2 to 3 times per week. Specific practice days and times vary depending on team, age division, coach schedule, and field availability.
Practices have historically taken place at Bartholomew Sports Complex in Elk Grove. Final field assignments are confirmed once teams are formed each season.
Games are played primarily on Saturdays, with occasional Sunday games. Families can expect limited travel throughout the Northern California region to play other youth clubs.
We welcome multi-sport athletes! However, lacrosse is a seasonal commitment with regular weekday practices and weekend games. If you are balancing multiple sports schedules, we recommend speaking with your head coach about attendance expectations prior to registering.
Equipment, Registration & Costs
Contact rules differ significantly between boys' and girls' lacrosse, as well as across age divisions. Our certified coaches place a strong focus on safety, proper technique, and age-appropriate play.
